The Astafiev Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University was founded in 1932 and named after V.P. Astafiev. The University is situated in the city of Krasnoyarsk - the administrative centre of one of the biggest regions of Russia. This region, called the Krasnoyarsk Kray, is in the centre of Siberia - a vast territory to the east of the Urals. Krasnoyarsk is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of Siberia. It is located on the banks of the Yenisei River, the longest, deepest and most powerful river in Russia. The city (population - about one million) is surrounded with picturesque forest-covered mountains, and not far from the city there is a famous nature preserve "Stolby" (pillar-like rocks). There is a tourist area there and rock climbing is a traditional entertainment and sport for Krasnoyarsk residents and guests from other lands.
The University graduates specialists of various profiles: Humanitarian-social (including Religion Studies, Political Science, Philology, Social Work, History), Pedagogical (including Social Pedagogics, Oligophrenopedagogy, Special Pre-school Pedagogics and Psychology, Pre-school Pedagogics and Psychology), Economics and Management (including Organization Management, Vocational Training), Culture and Arts (including Museology and National Monuments Protection), Linguistics (including Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, Theory of Translation, Foreign Languages), Natural Sciences (including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geo-ecology, Geography).
The University has 5 branches on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Kray and at present over 13 thousand students study at the University and its branches. Scientific research work is carried out at the University in the following directions: Pedagogy, Psychology, Biology, Physical Training, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Linguistics, History, Sociology, Ecology, Special Pedagogics (Education for Mentally Retarded Children). At the University there have been set up and function a number of scientific and academic-scientific problem laboratories: geo-ecology lab, chemistry lab, herbarium, zoology museum, multimedia technologies lab, neurophysiology lab, centre of complex sociologic research work, archeology lab, regional linguistic centre, etc. Besides, the University actively cooperates with scientific research institutions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The University keeps developing academic and scientific ties with higher educational institutions from a number of foreign countries of America, Europe and Asia. Staff and students exchanges, joint research work and publications are the major directions in our cooperation.
